Honorable Mention June Garden after Rain Vienna (Carole Barley) Barefoot, step into sunshine on green, Iris throw swords to the sky whilst diamonds drip off jasmine yet to bloom in their feathery curves of heaviness. Lay down, consider the blue blue of the sky and perfumes tangled in a craze of colour. There is silence after rain, a shimmering seen best from a low angle, flesh to earth. I gathered together thoughts and seeds, nurtured spindles of green in days without light. Spoke softly, fingers running undersides of leaves, Strange incantations of Latin and Greek. June rain tastes of the expectation of moonflower evenings, a stray breeze and clear chimesong as the old tree sways. August will see the daturas bloom and wine shared under stars. Vines curl, mimulus laugh in a million shades of life, there is a jungle here, unfettered ways of growing arch and spread, a small freedom between slate and bricks. Lay down in my garden, smell the wet earth and all the possibilities it holds. Feel this growing, the vivaciousness and colour that is life.
